The two story McCampbell home, built around 1786 is located at the corner of Kent Road and Hasting Road. By far, the oldest home on record in the Donelson area. Except for its height and tall chimneys at each end, would be lost in the subdivision that today entirely surrounds it. Members of the McCampbell family believe that the house was built by the Hall brothers, business partners with Archibald Buchanan who also built old Blue Brick around 1790.The original house had four large 20 x 18 rooms with thirteen foot ceilings and a nine foot wide hall. The paneled doors are four foot wide. The original floors are still in use and the porch floor of white cedar, like that of The Hermitage. The solid walls are 18 inches thick and are of hand made brick laid 2 x 2 x 2 in a Flemish bond (which has the end of one brick showing). The fireplace mantels are of handcarved wood which many an antique collector has coveted. Originally the kitchen was fifty yards from the rear of the house and there were two servants cabins and a smokehouse.
